About us

Asker and Bærum Youth Winds (Norwegian: Asker og Bærum Ungdomskorps, ABUK) is a youth wind band that works closely with the local school bands. ABUK is a band for those who want to do more as musicians than they can in the school bands. The band wishes to maintain a high level musically and plays a varied repertoire of both classical wind band music and entertainment music.

Since their startup in 2006 the band has wished to maintain a higher musical level than in the school bands. ABUK is a natural link between the school bands and adult bands. Nonetheless, every year the band compete with adult bands in the Norwegian National Wind Band Championship (NM).

The band is primarily run by the musicians them selves, but the board also includes parents to relieve the conductor and musicians from some of the administration, budgeting and accounting. The planning and implementation of seminars, concerts and tours is handled primarily by the musicians them selves.

The band does not organize any volunteer fundraisers, because it is supposed to be possible to be active in both the school bands and ABUK. The band takes on requests as both a full band and smaller ensembles.
